5th June, Thursday – Boston & New York
Day 6
2nd day in Boston – lots to see, lots to do! Started the day with a stroll around upmarket area of Boston next to the City Hall, followed up with a quick jaunt to the Boston Harbour and financial district area..

Harbour..

Financial centre.. Well, at least the fog has sort of lifted slightly.. =P
And finally to Copley Square – home to various landmarks, such as the Trinity Church!

Beautiful architecture!
Back to the hostel around lunch time to grab our bags for our bus trip to New York! (Yay, highly anticipated part of trip – NY) We had decided to opt for the cheaper “Chinatown buses” instead of Greyhound. The Chinatown buses (http://gotobus.com) generally send you from one town’s Chinatown, to the other’s. And actually it was a much more pleasant ride, cos for once, the bus wasn’t packed full, and we had lots of room to spread ourselves out..
Arrived in Chinatown, New York!

Check out the people lounging about the parks, and the kids playing happily.. Was just thinking that the scene looked as if it was plucked out of our own Singapore Chinatown and transported here cos it looked so similar!
A quick ride on the very-confusing-subway, and we were at our hostel – Chelsea Star Hostel! Now, the hostel looked rather sad on the outside, being above a florist and a 24-hours Subway outlet (which is very handy and convenient actually), but the moment you enter the door, the transformation is almost palpable.
Cool lighting, brightly painted walls, key card security access to dorms, 1 toilet to each 8-bed dorm, with air-con and wireless internet – not to mention the 24hr Subway below and a Laundromat 5 mins walk away – it was simply quite a good hostel! =)
Eager to explore New York, we started walking around!

Sights of New York! Haha, New York is definitely a highlight for me on this trip to the States..

New York Times.. =P

Times Square in the day!

Grand Central Station!
Grand Central Station had a really nice clock in the centre lobby, with a beautiful ceiling which had star signs painted on it! =)

Herald Square, with Macy’s at the side!

Empire State Building.. No sign of KingKong though..

Broadway!!!
The other musical that I wanted to watch on Broadway – The Phantom of the Opera! Excitedly enquired about tickets, and was quite happy that the ticket office guy was giving out discount coupons with the tickets so that they were cheaper than the original pricing, (though like most musicals on Broadway, still relatively expensive..) O_O..
Phantom was a simply enjoyable musical! Ok, so the music might not be as pleasing to the ears compared to Les Miserables, but the songs were haunting and full of emorions, especially the most famous song sung by the Phantom.. Haunting..
And you know what? I’m so impressed with the props! (Haha, I tink I say that for every musical that I watch..) Firstly, there were so many backdrop changes. Then there was the scene of the underground lair of the Phantom, where the candle lights just simple rose from the stage floor..
Haiz.. Such a bitter sweet romantic love story..
The show ended around 10.30pm, and so walked around Times Square, soaking in the buzz and activity!
Just look at the busy night lights and neon billboards! Simply breathtaking.. you simply have to be there to experience it! =)
