1st June, Sunday – Washington DC (Day 2)

Day 2
Woke up to a sunny morning in our hostel – Hilltop Hostel!

Started off the day retracing our footsteps, this time, visiting the monuments in the day time! Ok, so here are the photos.. You be the judge of which is a better timing to go visit them.. =) Oh, and don’t forget about the direction of the sun! Cos the sun rises in the East, its easier to take photos of the monuments in the morning if you’re walking down from the Washington Monument to Lincoln Memorial..

Washington Memorial Monument..

The Washington Monument required ticket-entry again, so can’t believe that we had to wait another 3 hours or so before getting to go up, but it gave us time to walk to the other Monuments..

Lincoln Memorial in the daytime..

Photobucket
Vietnam War Memorial.. It has a beautiful V-shaped memorial, which was designed by a young girl..

Photobucket
Korean War Memorial.. Haunting expressions on the steel soldiers’ faces..

Those 5 memorials were quite close to each other.. And after that we walked around the tidal basin to the other 2 memorials situated around the tidal basin..

Photobucket
Franklin D. Roosevelt Memorial.. This is another beautiful memorial.. Situated over a large area of land, with multiple water features, it was so serene and peaceful..

And the Jefferson Memorial..

Our morning stroll pretty much took the whole morning.. Walked into the Smithsonian Museum for Air and Space and spent some time touring the exhibits before heading up the Washington Monument for a beautiful view of Washington DC.. Too bad the Museum of American History was closed for renovations..

Views from top of Washington Monument!

View of White House..

Was starting to run out of time! Cos we only had 2 days in DC, and had to catch an evening overnight Greyhound bus to Toronto.. So didn’t get a chance to go into the other Smithsonian museums =( (though too many museums would probably have killed the fun of going into the museums partially – info overload! Ah!)

Headed back to hostel, grab our bags, and hopped onto our first overnight bus on Greyhound! Well, the bus wasn’t fantastic, but it wasn’t all too bad either. At least the 2 of us got to sit together, so it wasn’t too bad. Slept a little.. Not quite used to sleeping on buses.. =P
