Venice - Land of.. Land?? Water!!

Argh.. now my desktop is acting up.. Can't even manage a decent internet connection on my desktop.. Sheesh.

Day 11

We depart Rome for Venice this morning!! =D I was kinda relieved actually.. =P (cos each of us was supposed to manage 1 city, and Rome was my city, and it wasn't exactly safe and all, so i was constantly on teterhooks at night or when in deserted areas.. O_O)

En route to Venice, we stopped at Pisa. Just a short "drop-in" on Pisa, to see the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa of course. =D Anyway, we took a bus ride to see the Leaning Tower.. =D Apparently the Leaning Tower wasn't an isolated attraction. There was a duomo church and other attractions along with it too.. But of course, I tink most people only expected to see the Leaning Tower when they go to Pisa??

Yepz, it was absolutely hilarious at the photos we tried to take!! Many different poses - pushing the tower, kicking the tower, "towering" over the tower with the help of camera techniques.. Sheesh.. we spent almost an hour exchanging places on this fencepost so that we could pose and take photos.. =P *i bet everyone else thought we were so suaku.. lolz.. It was exorbitantly expensive to go up the tower!! 15 euros to climb 7 storeys of stairs.. Woah. We decided not to go up in the end.. Just stared and admired the tower from the bottom.. Works are going on to ensure that the tower does not tip even further.. O_O

A behind-the-scenes photo insight.. =P (almost like a film crew)

After lunch at a small cafe, we headed back to trawl the stalls outside the Leaning Tower, before we headed back to the train station, since we had some time.. to our chagrin, we missed our bus after that!! O_O"" OMG. We hoped for the other bus to come slightly earlier, as it would be quite a tight squeeze, heading back to the train platform, collecting our bags, then heading to the correct platform to board the train.

We ran like madmen the moment the bus docked at the train station.. Grabbed our bags, and rushed to the train in time~ Phew! No more excessive souvenir shopping.. =P

Anyway, it was the start of a long train journey to Venice..

********************

We arrived at Venice Mestre Station on Venice mainland (seriously, mainland). We had to change a train to Venice S. Lucia Station on Venice island.. (think island surrounded by waterways. There's a causeway of sorts connecting Venice mainland to Venice island..) Anyway, both train rides were uneventful, the 2nd after a filling Mac's dinner.. =P after which, we trekked to the bus terminus on Venice island where apparently there was a shuttle bus to bring us to our hostel that night..

As we were loading our bags onto the bus, we heard familiar shouts behind us.. Sirui, David, Mohana & Neela were in Venice too! =D well, it wasn't too much of a surprise, since we knew they had booked the same accomodation as us, but it was quite coincidental.. =D Yepz, it was nice talking to other fellow M1s too!! =D So all 11 of us hopped on the bus to the hostel on the mainland.. =D

Imagine our surprise when we realised that our hostel was a campsite!!

our dearest campsitez..

Apparently, our bookings were for 2 2-bed tents, and 1 3-bed cabin. O_O We decided on Chris & the 2 girls sharing the cabin anywayz.. They could help us charge our hp & digicam batts too.. =P Our tents were.. tents!! i must admit that i was at first taken aback. Well, i hadn't expected to sleep in tents, not overseas anyway.. =P The tents were this small tent, with 2 beds laid in.

A little squashed, but otherwise comfy.. =D

There was barely sufficient space to open our backpacks and take out our stuff.. =P Plus, there was no light source.. O_O so for the 1st time in our trip, our torches were actually pretty useful. =D Yepz..

Camping site it may be, but the place had excellent facilities indeed! There was a bar, swimming pool (no, not pond. I'll know the difference. =P), supermarket, canteen,... At least it didn't rain.. O_O""" ...
